Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a yoga mat?

All mats and equipment are provided for you, but feel free to bring your own mat if you would prefer - yogi's choice!

  • I'm pregnant/I've just had a baby. Is this class suitable for me?

Roo is highly knowledgable and experienced when it comes to exercise for pregnant and postpartum women and happy to support you on your journey.

For pregnancy -If you are an experienced yoga practitioner and pregnant, you are welcome to come to these classes, I will offer you a range of modifications to support you as your body changes. However, if you have not practised yoga before and are pregnant, these classes are not suitable for you, and I would recommend finding a specific pregnancy/prenatal-yoga class instead. This is because it is not advisable to start a new exercise regime whilst pregnant, because of all the changes that are occurring in your body already. Pregnancy/prenatal classes are designed for people who are both pregnant and new to movement, so will suit your requirements better.

Postpartum - During the early postpartum phase (under 12 months for most people), it's really important to go back to basics and move slowly and intentionally to help reset the body. If you are in that early postpartum phase, these classes will not be suitable for you as they are set at a faster pace. I do however offer 1-to-1s, where you are welcome to bring your baby along and you could also come with a friend to help split the cost. I am currently offering a postpartum deal of 10x1 hour sessions for £20 each, to help you get back to moving confidently and safely on and off the mat. • What kind of yoga is it?

Not all yoga is created equal! Roo teaches a modern style of yoga that has been developed by a physiotherapist, giving you the highest quality of movement and education for your brain and your body. This innovative method is a smarter, safer, and more effective approach to yoga and movement. Designed to enhance mobility, increase flexibility, and reduce pain.

Every class with Roo contains intelligent sequencing to build you from the ground up, with intentional movement, focused exercises to improve mobility, strength, and balance, guided breath work, and flowing movement, followed by relaxation to close. These classes will leave you feeling centred, energised, and more balanced both on and off the mat.

  • What should I wear? Do I need to bring anything else?

Please bring a water bottle, and wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in - sports kit is ideal. Expect to be moving around a lot on your mat!

You may also want an extra layer for warmth and comfort during relaxation at the end.

Barefoot is highly recommended - ground connection and foot mobility is vital to the quality of your movement. Even grippy yoga-style socks can actually prevent your feet from moving as freely. However, if you are desperate to have your feet covered up, I won't stop you! If you do use any correct-toes/toe spreaders, these are fantastic to wear during your practise so feel free to bring them along!

  • I’ve never done yoga before/it’s been a while! Can I come to your classes?

These classes are mixed-level, with options always given to either modify postures or increase the challenge, so that you can feel both progress and support, wherever you are on your journey.

I welcome both beginner's and seasoned athletes to my classes!

Many people feel nervous about practising yoga in a larger group setting, especially if it is your first time doing yoga or exercise. If this sounds like you, I also offer private 1-to-1 or small group sessions from my small home studio in Bournville. Contact me to find out more about private yoga sessions.

  • I’m not very bendy, can I do yoga?

Yoga is not about contorting your body into crazy shapes (although that can be fun!). My classes focus less on getting into complicated postures, and more on centering into your core and balancing mobility and strength so that you feel great inside and out. If you’re not bendy, that’s not a problem. Yoga will assist you in relieving tension and gaining mobility in a safe and supported way. In fact, if you’re not bendy, that’s all the more reason to come to yoga!

  • Do men do yoga?

Absolutely! Yoga may be seen as a more “feminine” sport, but more and more men are turning to the yoga mat for a good workout, as well as to relieve stress and support their mental health and wellbeing. In fact, yoga was traditionally practised by men only, and not women! These days, it is very rare for me to have an all women’s class- you almost certainly won’t be the only man in the room.

  • What is your refund policy?

If you cannot make it to a session, please contact Roo as soon as possible so that your place can be taken by the next person on the waitlist. There will be no refunds given for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the session is due to begin. If you have booked a 6 week block of sessions, these are for 6 consecutive classes, so sorry, no refunds will be given unless in exceptional circumstances.
