About British International Freight Association
The British International Freight Association (BIFA) is the prime trade association for UK registered companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport, air, road, rail and sea, and/or customs brokerage. BIFA has approx. 1500 members in the logistics and supply chain sector, known generally as freight forwarders, who offer a wide range of services within these various modes. Members of BIFA are organisations engaged in the movement of freight to/from the UK by all modes of transport: air, road, sea and rail. Some members are also provide customs clearance and other cross border services. A not-for-profit organisation, BIFA is funded by subscription and run by its members for members. It operates with a full-time Secretariat which administers and manages the Association’s affairs. BIFA members trade under a set of Standard Trading Conditions that are backed in the insurance sector. The association provides: Representation Information and Guidance on Technical Matters Training and Development Industry Promotion Representation BIFA reflects the views of its members in both national and international governing bodies and institutions, and by political representation. Information and Guidance on Technical Matters BIFA communicates industry relevant information via multiple channels. The BIFA website, the BIFA app, a monthly newsletter and regional meetings, are the main ways that we communicate, and our staff receive numerous telephone and e-mail enquiries about practical and technical matters. Training and Development BIFA provides industry training not only to members, but also to international traders. Courses are run throughout the year. The subjects covered include customs procedures, air cargo security, import/export and international trade procedures. Industry Promotion BIFA encourages logistics as a career path and was instrumental in establishing a freight forwarding apprenticeship. Further career promotion is undertaken in school events.
