Cushion Making Workshop

Make your own cushion to match your decor. We have over 1400 different, 100% cotton fabrics for you to choose from. You will be able to take home a beautiful, hand-finished Cushion that you have made yourself with the guidance of Alan.   Your cushion will be approximately 18" to 20".  Get to choose your own fabrics for the cushion cover.  The cushion filler is high quality, hollow fibre, professional filler that does not squash after being used once. Everything you require is provided in the course fee so there is nothing else to buy once you have paid the £40.00. Generally, the course is two hours in length but the main aim is to leave with a finished item so if it takes longer then that is ok.

I find joy in craft and the handmade and I’m so lucky that I get to hand make my own products everyday. I live in Brighton where I grew up, I’m an avid tea drinker, a colour lover and I find happiness in being outdoors and in nature. Lume lighting is based in a small sunny studio at the bottom of Albert Mews in Brighton & Hove, UK. From here I hand make contemporary and traditional sewn lampshades using Lume’s own collection of printed fabrics and a range of luxury linens. Alongside my expertly designed lampshades, there are unique fairy lights and pendant lights to add interest and fun to your home. I am a skilled lampshade maker and have been expertly manufacturing lampshades since 2014. After adding contemporary drum lampshades to my range of homewares, I found a love for lampshades and decided to focus on lighting and rebranded my homewares business from ‘Joanna Corney’ to ‘Lume Lighting’ in 2018. Being a trained printed textile designer means that my lampshades are unique as they are made using my own exclusive screen and lino printed fabric. I am skilled in the traditional methods of soft lampshade making as well as hard backed contemporary styles, and offer a bespoke made to order and lampshade recovering service.

I’m the eldest of three girls, and as we were growing up, our mum made wedding dresses, upholstered furniture and created most of our clothes on her sewing machine. So I think it was inevitable that one of us would grow up with a creative streak. I’ve always enjoyed making things, not all of my ventures have been successful, but since moving into our current house and being somewhat uninspired by the range of beige lampshades on offer on the high street, I decided to learn how to make my own. Since that day I’ve become addicted. I feel lucky to have found a way to combine my love of beautiful fabrics with interiors – and spread the lampshade love to homes across Yorkshire and beyond. It’s something I take great pride in. I’m passionate about helping clients find that perfect fabric to match their new scheme and make them something unique – something they couldn’t find on the High Street. I also love teaching people how to make their own, on my lampshade making workshops – the smile as their lampshade starts to take shape is priceless. Whether it is a country, coastal or more neutral theme you are looking for, we have a wide selection! We can also make up bespoke shades in fabric provided by you, or larger drum shades for floor lamps or ceiling lights. Well Minerva was the Goddess of Art & Trade and she seemed a very appropriate figurehead for a business based around sharing knowledge about art. What do we do? Our interests. We stock Annie Sloan & Polyvine Paints - available for Click & Collect. Founded by Artist Lottie Cole we host masterclasses taught by artists and artisans as well as regular weekly classes. All the classes are taught by professional full-time practitioners, who love to share their knowledge and skill. The classes are open to all levels, unless stated, and kept to a very limited number. This keeps the classes intimate and allows for everyone to have sufficient help and encouragement in a friendly atmosphere. As well as learning and expanding skills our goal is to send participants away refreshed and invigorated by sharing a creative experience. POP UP SALES We host twice yearly pop-up sales where we bring together makers the chance to showcase their products direct to you. Hi, I am Geraldine Christie the owner of Thimbleberry Sewing. A small independent sewing/crafting venue since 2020 in Elderslie, Scotland. It’s a place to learn new skills, built confidence and meet new people. All classes are run from my home in a sociable and welcoming environment with a maximum of four students per class. I cater for those who are complete beginners or more advanced sewists. I have always had a passion for sewing and crafting and learned to sew from an early age. You could say its in my blood as I come from a long family tradition of sewing, passed down from my Great Grandmother. Although I could sew I wanted to learn more and trained at Cardonald College in Glasgow where I achieved an HNC in Clothing Technology. I then set up my own Dressmaking business specializing in Bridal wear. After some time I wanted to pass on my skills and teach. After completing a BA in Consumer & Management Studies (Home Economics) and a PGDE teaching Diploma I was qualified to teach. I taught in Secondary schools for 12 years so, with over 30 years sewing experience you are in safe hands.
